High - resolution radio observations of RCW 49
High-resolution radio continuum observations of the southern H II complex RCW 49 are presented. The observations were carried out with the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) at 0.843 GHz, and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) at 1.38 and 2.38 GHz. Two wind-blown shells have been discovered in the core region of RCW 49, the more massive of which surrounds the Westerlund 2...
متن کاملRCW 103 – Revisiting a cooling neutron star
Recent observations of the compact source embedded within the supernova remnant RCW 103 rekindle interest in the origin of this object’s emission. We contrast several models in which neutron-star cooling powers RCW 103. Specifically, either the presence of an accreted envelope or a sufficiently intense magnetic field can account for the X-ray emission from this object. Subject headings: stars: ...
متن کاملPulsar Near the Supernova Remnant RCW 103
Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We report the detection of the radio pulsar counterpart to the 69 ms X-ray pulsar discovered near the supernova remnant RCW 103 (G332.4−0.4). Our detection confirms that the pulsations arise from a rotation-powered neutron star, which we name PSR J1617−5055. The observed barycentric period derivative confirms that the pulsar has a characteristic age of only 8 ...
متن کاملThe Giant Molecular Cloud associated with RCW 106 A 1 . 2 mm continuum mapping study
We have mapped the dust continuum emission from the molecular cloud covering a region of 28 pc×94 pc associated with the well-known H region RCW 106 at 1.2 mm using SIMBA on SEST. The observations, having an HPBW of 24′′ (0.4 pc), reveal 95 clumps, of which about 50% have MSX associations and only 20% have IRAS associations. Owing to the higher sensitivity to colder dust and higher angular r...
متن کاملDeep Near Infrared Imaging toward Vela Molecular Ridge C - 1 : A Remarkable Embedded Cluster in RCW
We present deep near-infrared (J, H, K S) images toward an embedded cluster which lies in a C 18 O clump in the cloud C of the Vela Molecular Ridge. This cluster has at least ∼ 350 members and a radius of ∼ 0.5 pc. The stellar surface number density is approximately 3000 stars pc −2 in the central 0.1 pc × 0.1 pc region of the cluster. This is much higher than most of the young clusters within ...
